A sleek Elgin ladies’ mechanical wristwatch from 1933 in solid 14K white gold, it’s lovely. It’s not running now but it does tick briefly if moved and looks clean inside. The case is a paradigmatic early 30s Art Deco design tending toward Streamline Moderne, architectural fluted elements resembling skyscrapers or possibly fountains at top and bottom. This and tiny scroll work around the edge are the only ornament, a geometric design that somehow elongates the rectangular case. Hopefully it speaks to someone other than me and can be serviced to keep time again, rather than meet the fate I saved it from decades ago, death as scrap gold. It’s truly too nice for that.
